The Whelan Building is located within Knowledge Quarter, behind the iconic clock tower of the Victoria Building on Brownlow Hill.
Completed in 1904 and designed by Alfred Waterhouse, a renowned Architect born in Liverpool in the 1800s. Waterhouse is known for his Gothic Revival style of architecture and his works can be found all over the country, with Manchester Town Hall, Natural History Museum in London and many of the Oxbridge university buildings forming a small part of his portfolio.
Currently undergoing a programme of repair and renovations, we are pleased to be a part of the team working at roof level on the Whelan Building, with our remit to repair and replace timeworn terracotta. Another project aided by the expertise of Darwen Terracotta, works commenced in September 2021, with an end date of December 2021 firmly in sight.
